Sonya has happily supported parents’ goals for feeding their baby for over 25 years. Non-judgmentally, she provides a calm and informative consult with mothers and babies in diverse circumstances. Free resources on the Lactation Care website additionally support families.
She has worked the whole perinatal continuum as a birth doula, public health nurse, workshop facilitator for medical residents etc., in settings ranging from a large Ontario city to Canada’s far north, both government-funded and in independent practice. Her MScN focus was also on human lactation. She brings all this experience to her consults.
Sonya also has a broad range of experiences supporting health care professionals to provide evidence-based care. As a Provincial Health Promotion Consultant, Sonya assisted health care organizations to implement the WHO’s Baby-Friendly Initiative. She was the coordinator of provincial breastfeeding protocols for healthcare professionals, creator of multiple workshops facilitated around the province, and author of multiple resources used provincially and an infant formula resource used in 5 provinces.
In her spare time, she’s likely with family or outside hiking, cycling, or cross-country skiing.
